My Top Songs of 2024

Spotify Wrapped came out in early December, but I didn’t really agree with what it said my top songs of the year were, so here is my own list of the songs that impacted me.

Good Things Fall Apart vs. Sad Songs
I know this is a love song, but for me it captured the sadness I felt at graduating and leaving my school. It was a vibe for much of my senior year.

UP - Connor Price
After graduation, I felt a little bit of a rebirth. I no longer had the identity of “college student” (which I think inherently carries some level of immaturity with it) and am beginning to put on the identity of “mature, functioning adult.” This song expressed my joy at becoming a new person. (Honorable mention: Start Over by Flame + NF)

The Sun Will Rise - The Brilliance
I discovered this one only in the last few months of the year, but I just love how hopeful it is. Especially now in wintertime as the sun is hiding away more (and because of my work schedule it’s often dark both when I leave for work, and when I arrive back home), this reminder that the dark is only temporary is comforting.

Turning out pt iii - AJR
This was a song from late last December, so it didn’t make it onto my last recap. At the time I was dealing with romantic feelings, and wondering if I would ever get married, and this song definitely exaggerated those feelings. I don’t know if I can say that it actually helped, because maybe some of my feelings just came because I was listening to this, but idk man.

A Girl of Fire - Joe Hisaishi
This was part of the soundtrack for Boy and the Heron by Ghibli, which I watched this year, and then used as studying music during my senior thesis prep. This track in particular stuck with me. (Honorable mention: Granduncle, Rain of Fire, and Ask Me Why, from the same album)
